Cookbook Favorites + Save $ on Books!

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

I don't think I could tell you what my favorite recipe is. My favorite food is tacos... and:

  • strawberries

  • tiramisu

  • I could go on for awhile...

My favorite recipes are a mixture of family favorites that have been passed down and tried-and true recipes from various cookbooks and other sources - all stored in a cute lemon-print binder - and whenever I have no idea what to make, I know I can pick anything in there and it will be amazing and I'll usually have all the ingredients in my house already. Getting to this point has taken years of flipping through cookbooks, Pinterest, trial and error, and many failed recipes. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes after reading this!

One of my favorite resources for free recipes is AllRecipes.com - I used to like Pinterest for recipe ideas, but the endless inspiration could lead me down a rabbit hole for hours, and it was frustrating to save a recipe to Pinterest or even my bookmarks then go back and it wasn't available. Short of opening many tabs, which would make my computer slow down a lot, & having to print all of the recipes I found immediately and keeping them all in an unorganized binder with magazine clippings (been there, done that), I didn't know what to do. What I ended up doing was putting those random copies between pages of my cookbooks to compare recipes and pick which one I liked best.

I have also tried printing out one of those free online meal plans and went to the store to buy their grocery list ($300 for ONE week... never again) and I did make the recipes, but half of them were duds that I'd never make again! Some were bland, some took way too long, some used odd ingredients that I didn't care for. This is why I make sure to use common, inexpensive ingredients in my meal prep idea kits and meal plans, all of which can be customized to YOUR preferences!

You might quickly notice my favorite author source for cookbooks - I love America's Test Kitchen's recipes because they do a fantastic job of discussing what works and what doesn't! I'm an experienced non-professional cook with a pretty large library of cookbooks, and their books still have enough depth to keep me interested. As far as buying cookbooks, a source I love to check besides Amazon and local bookstores (this includes Half Price Books - I have gotten some amazing deals there! You just have to know what you're looking for) is ThriftBooks.com! You can get new releases, limited editions, and used books from just about any category you can think of. ThriftBooks saved my budget more than a few times shopping for college textbooks! Anyhoo, moving on to the main topic today: here are some of my favorite cookbooks currently!

Let me know what I should look into next! What's your favorite cookbook?
