What can I expect for the first visit?Typically the first visit lasts about 45-60 minutes and allows you to get to know your dietitian and vice versa. These sessions are private and may start with questions regarding your goals, eating habits, health concerns, and medications. Although it takes a handful of sessions to get a thorough assessment and really get to know you, I like to lay a solid foundation for our work together in this first session. We will talk through where you've been to get you to today and begin to uncover what's underneath your health, food, and body image concerns so we can help you heal from the inside out. My hope is to be able to identify key areas to begin our work together by the end of this session and if appropriate, some small actionable steps you can take moving forward. After that, follow-up sessions will typically occur on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, although we have clients that see us less frequently depending on where they are in their journey. These can last about 30 minutes. In each session, we’ll continue to explore your thoughts and feelings surround your physical, mental and emotional health and address concerns that you have. We will talk through what is working for you and what's been challenging, dialogue through tools and strategies and re-evaluate your goals. This journey is rarely linear and usually ebbs and flows. Although there is a large emotional and mental component to our work, we also want to equip you with the skills and tools to replace unhelpful behaviors with behaviors that best serve you and your overall health. The goal of every session is to move you closer towards physical healing, normalizing eating behaviors, respecting your body size, establishing self care rhythms and cultivating compassion with yourself so you can live a purposeful, joyful life. As these sessions continue (or in lieu of these ongoing sessions), we can create a custom meal plan that is tailored to your individual needs, and to discuss what types of barriers could be in your way. For example, we can take into consideration whether you are cooking for yourself or for a family, where you shop for food, where affordable produce is available, etc. United Healthcare or BCBS insurance? How should I prepare for this? You may want to come with an idea of what you'd like to improve on and some goals you'd like to achieve (and of course an open mind). You can also be prepared with a completed New Patient Form which will be sent via email prior to your first initial appointment, recent food diary of 3-7 days, a list of any medications or supplements you're taking, and any recent labs if you have had blood work done to check your cholesterol, blood sugar, iron, vitamin/mineral levels, etc. This is not required but it is helpful so we can get solutions for you as quickly as possible!

Are you going to just tell me what to eat (or what to avoid)? We are not the food police! We do not tell people what they can or can’t eat, or that you should only eat fruits & vegetables. That’s not our objective at all - we want to help you achieve YOUR health & wellness goals. We will make a plan with you that’s realistic to maintain so you're able to stick to it and are sustainable long-term - this is what success looks like!
